Getting Personal – A New Job.

What Color Is Your Parachute? NYX Matte Setting Spray, Gucci Glasses, $20

I’ve been on the hunt for a job for months. Months and months and months. I’ve been applying for positions since last September and have had n0 luck. I was feeling pretty hopeless and then I unexpectedly got an email from a store asking me to come in for an interview. It was one of the most magical emails I’ve probably ever received (Besides the one announcing I had been accepted to college.).

Let’s talk a little bit about my working past before we get into what I’m doing to get that money. I’ve worked at doctor’s offices, an art gallery, and have interned at a dentist’s office. I really enjoyed all of those positions, but haven’t had luck finding any jobs like it in our area. We live in a military town and jobs are pretty scarce. After a while, I got pretty desperate and just needed to find something to pay the bills.

So, I’m working at a fast fashion clothing store. I’ve never worked retail before so I was extremely intimidated by the whole thing. I was worried I wouldn’t have the people skills or be able to handle the high paced nature of it, but I think I’m doing pretty well. If you follow me on twitter, I’ve been tweeting about some little moments I’ve been having since I’ve started and there have definitely been both high and low points. I have had rude and weird customers, but it’s always the sweet customers that leave a lasting impression and make the ache in my feet worth it.

I’ve been working for about 3 weeks now and I have to say, so far, I love it. My coworkers are smart and confident men and women who support each other and look out for the satisfaction of the customer. I get to interact with tons of people each day and sometimes I even get to help customers find the perfect outfit for dates or formals. I don’t want to disclose where I work for privacy reasons, but if you ever want to know more about my experience at a fast fashion retailer, I’m definitely into having that chat.
