Top 5 Eye Brushes.

A photo of the MAC 266, e.l.f. Smudge Brush, MAC 217, ecoTools Full Eye Shadow Brush, and the e.l.f. Blending Eye Brush amongst eye shadow palettesI’m not exactly the best at applying eye shadow. I’m essentially a whack-on-a-couple-of-neutral-shades-and blend-them-into-oblivion type of gal and it seems to work out for the most part. There are 5 brushes in my collection that make applying shadows a breeze and if I lost every other one, I think I could survive (quite happily).

Seeing the MAC 266 in my top 5 probably isn’t a surprise. It’s been the key tool in my brow routine for a few years now as well as my favorite way to draw on a cat eye. The 266’s versatility is what makes it so essential to my collection. I think investing in a duplicate of this one is in my future because I’m constantly wishing I had one dedicated to brows and one for liner.

2015 was all about smudging shadow under the lower lash line for me. It adds a little edginess to an eye look by giving my makeup that lived in feel. My favorite way to smoke it out is with the e.l.f. Smudge Brush. It’s a blunt cut version of their Eye Shadow Brush that applies and blends shadow under my eyes with ease.

Who doesn’t love a MAC 217? It’s a do all, be all of a brush. It applies shadow, blends out the crease, adds a brow highlight perfectly, and basically does the work for you. It’s as soft as the day I bought it and washes perfectly without shedding every single time.

The ecoTools Full Eye Shadow Brush is probably my oldest eye shadow brush. The densely packed bristles and tapered ends make it easy to highlight the inner corner and apply color. It’s perfect for laying down lid color as well as pigments and loose shadows. It’s another brush that does it all.

The name of this last one is a little deceiving. Although it’s called the e.l.f. Blending Eye Brush, I like to think of it as the crease brush. It’s too small and not fluffy enough for true blending, but it applies color to the crease with precision and it’s domed shape fits in my crease as if it were made for it. It picks up just the right amount of shadow every single time. Speaking of shadow, I just put up a single eye shadow declutter because it was requested that I do more declutter videos. Hope you enjoy!
