Hey there bow friends,
Are you ready for #MarchMatteness? I’ve been planning it since the first week of January so I’m extremely excited to get started. I thought we would begin with the Rimmel London Show Off Velvet Lip Lacquer in Meteoric Matte.
Almost 2 years ago I gushed about the regular Rimmel Lip Lacquers for their intensely pigmented punch of color and long-lasting formula. The matte formula offers the same colorful experience and I feel like it applies even nicer than the original does. It also has the same applicator and the same tart and fruity scent. So what makes it different? The formula of the matte one is much lighter feeling and wears much more comfortably than the original does. I found the original to feel tight and flake off after very long wear time, but the matte formula is even more long-lasting, wears beautifully over time, and offers a nice stain. They both transfer while eating, drinking, or smooching.
“But Tara, it doesn’t really look that matte.” I don’t think it does either. They should have stuck with the lip velvet title. The finish is definitely velvet and I find it doesn’t set to a matte finish unless you blot it. Once blotted, it looks matte for the most part. I do really love this lip color, but I think calling it matte is misleading. This shade specifically is a gorgeous ruby shade that I think looks fantastic before and after blotting. If you’re looking for a strictly matte liquid lipstick, I might go for something like one of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. Don’t let the fact that the Rimmel offering isn’t entirely matte deter you from trying them out. I think they’re worth a try as I’ve fallen in love with this one.
What do you all think? I am crazy about the color and the way this product wears, I just don’t think it should be considered matte. No worries, I’ll be showing you some really matte lip products later this month, pinky promise.
We shall talk soon!
