Hey there bow friends,
Today I’ve got an awesome and in-depth review on the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation. Before we get too into it, let me remind you of my skin type. I have combination skin that tends to be mostly oily with random dry spots. Typically foundations don’t last on my oily areas and snag onto my dry spots.
I was matched for this foundation in Sephora and had an easy time settling on a shade. Tarte products are fantastic because they come with descriptions of what skin tone each shade suits. Tan Honey is described as being suitable for tan skin with a peach undertone which works perfectly with my complexion.
I have worn this with a few different primers (Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer – Blemish Control, Rimmel Stay Matte Primer, Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector) and find it performs fantastically over any kind I use. It works well with setting sprays too and doesn’t cause pilling or streaking because of the primer or spray.
The consistency is rather moussey actually. It reminds me a lot of the texture of the Revlon Whipped Creme Makeup, but just in much better packaging. It’s extremely easy to apply and doesn’t feel heavy at all. Speaking of application, let’s get on to the tools I use with this product.
I apply this foundation by dotting it on first and blending later. This foundation doesn’t set too quickly so it does give you some time to blend it to the perfect finish. Now I’ve used an assortment of tools to apply this as well as my own two hands and I’m happy to report it works perfectly every single way I’ve tried it. I’ve used the Real Techniques Buffing Brush (as pictured above), the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush, and the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge to create an even base layer of the foundation on and have never had any problems. Each brush offers a different finish and amount of coverage, but I always find that my foundation looks flawless. Flawless meaning my skin looks like my skin just perfected.
What I love about this foundation is that it acts like a foundation and powder all in one thanks to the amazonian clay. On oilier days I set it with my palladio rice powder and they work together really nicely.
The amazonian clay is what gives it that kick of lasting power. A 12-hour claim is a big one. I find that this product does last between with very minimal fading for 7-9 hours, but I do get a little shiny. It holds up pretty well to humidity, but I think there might be something out there that works better. In high heat and sweaty situations I find that it feels a little cakey, but it performs perfectly for everyday, typical wear. In order to make it hot temperature friendly, I set it with the Urban Decay De-slick makeup setting spray and I’m good to go.
At $38.00, I think this product is worth the money. I haven’t found a drugstore foundation that has the lasting power and a finish quite like this one. There’s also a pretty decent color range. I like the easy to use and hygienic packaging and I think the quality of the product overall is something special.
Do you have this foundation? What do you think of it? This is only my second Tarte product to date and I’m really impressed with the quality and performance of their makeup. It’s crazy good. I hope the holiday season is treating you well! I’m in the middle of finals week and I hope you’re all doing well on your tests and finals. Good luck!
We shall talk soon!
