Hey there, bow friends!
I was recently in Walgreens with Mother Bow to pick up some ice cream and a notebook when..something came over me. By something, I mean all the new releases of drugstore lip products. The one thing I regret not picking up was some of the new Revlon Super Lustrous Shine Lipstick shades, but I digress. All the shades I chose are all a coral/pink/strawberry shade. Absolutely perfect for summer.
Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Wild Watermelon – $7.99 As you may be able to tell from my Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter review, I love the lip butters. I was looking for a brighter, more pinky red shade for the summer time as I’m becoming more daring with my lip color. Although it’s called Wild Watermelon, I see it as more of a strawberry. It reminds me of a less opaque version of Revlon Strawberry Suede (sadly discontinued). It’s just as creamy as the other lip butters and will receive a lot of use from me.
Maybelline Color Whisper in Pin Up Peach – $7.49 The Color Whispers aren’t necessarily new to the drugstore, but they’re new to me. This is my first one and I’m not necessarily in love, but I do like it. I grabbed Pin Up Peach because I was itching for a peachy-pink shade that would be easy to use on the go on busy days. It smells a little like vanilla cream and fruit, which I love. There isn’t any big shimmer, but it does offer a shine. With one swipe I’d say it’s peach, but with another I think it becomes more of a rosy pink. It is slightly hydrating, but not really moisturizing enough for me.
Almay Color+Care Liquid Lip Balm in Apricot Pucker – $5.99 I’m pretty sure these liquid lip balms are Almay’s first lip products. I was a bit skeptical about a lip balm in a lipgloss form especially since it claimed 194% more moisturization through out the day. That’s a big thing to say. Since I bought this, I’ve been wearing it constantly. I love the creamy formulation and the soft cocoa smell. I’ll apply this once in the morning and the glossy, hydrating finish lasts for hours even through meals. I’ve been having a dry lip crisis and this is my day time solution. This color in particular doesn’t show much on my lips because they are really pigmented, but I tried some on my fair-skinned, red headed, best friend and the color came through perfectly. I’d say these are definitely worth a try.
Rimmel London Apocalips Show Off Lip Lacquer in Stellar – $4.99 When I saw the small display for these hidden on the bottom shelf I literally dropped to my knees to scope them out. I’ve been looking for the Rimmel Apocalips since I watched Estee’s I love drugstore makeup tag. Of course, the US release would be 5 and a half months later than the UK release. I spent many a day popping into the store just to see if they would grace my presence. The shade I was most interested in was Stellar. I’m a bit scared to try the really bold shades like Big Bang or Apocaliptic, but maybe in the future. There are a wide variety of shades in this collection from nudes to bright reds, which is great. The product glides on glossy and doesn’t have any shimmer. It stays slightly shiny, but as it fades it leaves a matte/satin stain. It fades evenly as well which is a definite plus. The staying power is absolutely incredible. They have an awesome, tart and fruity scent. These aren’t too drying or particularly moisturizing on the lips. I would be careful to apply too much though, as it gets thick and unmanageable.
And that’s all of them! Hopefully I can do a face of the day featuring some of these in the future.
My next post will be a super special surprise for all of you out there. I can’t wait to share it with you all. We shall talk soon!
